Scent of A Woman (1992)

Chris O’Donnell stars as Charlie Simms, a young and innocent scholarship student at an exclusive prep school in New Hampshire who agrees to look after Lt. Col. Frank Slade (Al Pacino), a blind retired army officer, to earn extra money over the Thanksgiving holiday. Frank is a cantankerous and cynical bully who completely suprises Charlie with his plans for their weekend. He has bought them tickets to New York, booked a suite at the Waldorf, rented a limousine, and has big plans for a wild weekend in the Big Apple. Before Charlie realizes what he has gotten into, he is accompanying the colonel around Manhattan as they begin their wild and eye-opening adventures that include a fast-paced test drive in a Ferrari and a tango with a beautiful woman (Gabrielle Anwar). Frank’s passion is women; he waxes lyrically on their bodies, scent, and sensuality, and gradually Charlie becomes aware of the sentimental romantic buried deep within the lonely man’s heart. Charlie and Frank’s growing relationship is the core of the film; Frank teaches Charlie how to see, and Charlie teaches Frank how to feel in this heart-wrenching and heartwarming comedy. Al Pacino is simply stunning as Frank Slade, relying on his vocal power and strong physicality to carry across a complex range of emotions. He is both intolerable and completely lovable in this Oscar-winning role of a lifetime.

Excellant Acting
Pro : AL
Con : Professor
From the Argentinian tango 'Por una Cabeza', the lead theme of this master piece is the first item in the long list of good points about this wonderful movie.
We all know Al Pacino's capability of making a role his own and once again, he has managed to take control of the personality of the coronel, a man with no respect for society or its boundaries. Leading a young pupil through a short but significant moment in his life, we see the emotions of a true hero: a man full of flaws and complex with no happy ending.
Chris O'Donell acts really as the naive young boy. His soul really seems pure, as Al Pacino states in a part of the movie, he's the perfect work in progress that will try everything to convice his guide that life is worth living.
The unforgettable tango scene makes along with the other points, a must-see between anyone with a bit of taste in movies.
Just like a nice wine, a brand new ferrari and a beautiful woman, this is a escencial in life.

Last night, I saw this lovely film on USA. (My
fourth time viewing it). I am amazed that Pacino did not
win for best actor – I do not remember who beat him
that year, but he will be remembered for Godfather,
Dog day Afternoon, and Scent of a Woman. Wonderful
writing, acting, locations, etc. This movie has it all !!
On a scale from 1-10, this is an 11 !!

Al Pacino is my Knight and Shinning Armor. He was
my favorite actor in the whole movie. If I were to
date I’d want the man I date to be just like
him.
Al I love you.
I’ve seen the movie 3 times and I
am yet to have it apart of my movie
collection.
My daughter keeps asking me why I love this man
that’s old enough to be my Dad.
Well it’s his
personality he’s a romantist, caring, gentleman.
You can’t
find a man like him in reality. That’s the sad thing.
